The increase in the number of daily corona infections continues at a steady pace. The RIVM received 32,149 new infections reported by the GGDs on Wednesday. As a result, the daily average over the past 7 days increases, compared to Tuesday when 29,107 infections were reported, with 1,079.
Significant increase started since last week on Wednesday 5 January
After the number of infections had shot up to a record high of 24,590 last Wednesday, January 5, 24,700, Friday 34,885, Saturday 28,003, Sunday 32,581, Monday 27,993 and Tuesday 29,107 positive infections were reported.
Omikron variant much more contagious
Today, Wednesday, January 12, the number of infections with 32,149 is again significant, as a result of which the daily average continues to rise. The sudden large increase seems to be related to the fact that the new omikron variant is much more contagious.

A total of 330,858 new infections have been reported in the past 14 days. There are on average per day: 23,633.

In the meantime, a total of 6,599,181 booster shots have been taken up to and including Thursday 8 January.
