The Netherlands and the United States are among 60 countries that signed a commitment to the responsible use of AI at a conference in The Hague on Thursday.

The statement was released at the REAIM 2023 conference, which brought together governments and interest groups to discuss the ethical use of artificial intelligence.

“We are in time to prevent the AI ​​from running wild and out of control,” said Foreign Minister Wopke Hekstra at the closing ceremony.

The countries that signed the call to action pledged to provide “adequate protection and human oversight for the use of AI systems” and to “cooperate and share knowledge by exchanging good practices and lessons learned”. increase.

The two-day conference at The Hague’s World Forum was the result of a motion in the Dutch parliament in 2021 calling on the government to commit to a treaty regulating the use of autonomous weapons.

A total of 2,000 people from about 50 countries participated, and the event was co-hosted by South Korea.
