A drug suspect deliberately hit a police officer in Hoogerheide on Thursday evening, police said. According to a spokesperson, the 25-year-old man was caught in a suspected drug deal in a parking lot.

The incident happened around 7 p.m., when the victim tried to stop the driving suspect. After the collision, the officer landed on the hood of the car, after which the officer was dragged several meters.

The police then gave chase, after which the suspect got out and tried to run away. Officers were eventually able to detain him a short distance away. Later in the evening they found so-called pony packs with cocaine in the parking lot.

The officer who was hit was medically examined and will report attempted murder, police said. It is not known what injuries the man suffered from the accident.
