All Stan Pijnenburg arrows at the European Championships, the swimmer from Haaren still has to tick 0.11 for the Games | Regional sports

PSV swimmer Stan Pijnenburg (24) had a bad night. On Saturday, he remained in the qualifying matches in Eindhoven eleven hundredths from the Olympic limit in the 100-meter freestyle. He won the number in 48.63 seconds.

He stepped out of the water with the feeling that it was there. “So that’s quite sour,” says Pijnenburg. Fortunately, I still have a chance at the European Championship in Budapest, so I am already focusing on that. I want to swim hard right away in qualifying. I prefer to hit the limit in the morning and otherwise the more laps I get through, the more chances I get to make it. ”

Pijnenburg coach Patrick Pearson is confident that his pupil can swim even faster at the European Championship. “And I trust that he is right and that I am going to score that eleven hundredth”, says the 24-year-old swimmer from Haaren. “We did not work specifically towards this Eindhoven Qualification Meet and I was so close to it anyway. I still have five weeks to fine-tune. After two days off, there is now another training block. I probably don’t compete anymore, maybe also a training race here in Eindhoven. On Wednesday we will analyze this race, I can also get a lot of information from that. ”

Trigger

On the 200 off, Pijnenburg finished sixth on Sunday in 1.49.70. He then lingered over the line for a long time. “I no longer train for this”, he says afterwards at the pool edge of the Pieter van den Hoogenband Swimming Stadium. “For the 100 I was short on my first 50. If you start training that, you will lose endurance. But it is good to trigger the ending now and then. ”

Relays

Training mate Maarten Brzoskowski from Best was third in 1.48.50. It is too little to form a Dutch relay team on the 4×200 meters that can claim the limit. And for the 4×100 meter medley, the Dutch team is currently missing a fast backstroke specialist. “If you already leave two to three seconds on the first two lanes, you will never catch up”, Pijnenburg is realistic.

In mid-May, the Orangemen still hope to place themselves on the 4×100 for Tokyo at the European Championship. That limit is 3.14.78. Pijnenburg: “We are now working towards that. We are going to make a good plan and keep each other on our toes. Everyone wants to go to the Games and so you have to give each other something. ”
