The American online store and technology group Amazon is going to more than double the maximum base salaries for office workers and technical staff in the United States to 350,000 dollars a year, converted more than 306,000 euros. Now that is still at 160,000 dollars a year.
By raising salaries sharply, Amazon wants to become more attractive to talented and highly skilled employees. Other large American tech companies such as Microsoft, Apple and Google are also raising wages considerably in order to better attract and retain new talent.
In a memo, Amazon writes that the labor market was “exceptionally competitive” last year and that this is why this step is being taken. The company also wants to increase salaries for most employees worldwide. Amazon is also making huge investments in its logistics business, hiring many new staff for its distribution centers.
