This is according to a study by the French company Pitch Invasion. The total income from the European Football Championship is estimated at €117 million, while it would have been €194 million without the corona restrictions.
Amsterdam is relatively hard hit by the corona restrictions. Although 16,000 fans are welcome at each of the three group matches in the Johan Cruijff ArenA instead of the previously intended 12,000, that is still modest compared to the capacity of 55,500 places. This severely depresses the income from hotel stays, restaurants and other expenses.
In absolute terms, London is most affected by the restrictions. The city where the final will be held may earn €27.3 million, but that could have been €65.8 million. Withdrawing as a host city will cost Dublin €25.3 million in revenue.
Budapest plans to use the football stadium’s full capacity and can therefore look forward to a high €20 million.
Saint Petersburg even earns almost a million extra, taking care of three matches originally scheduled in Dublin.
