The Amsterdam student association ASC/AVSV is suspending several members who most likely misbehaved during the initiation period. They may eventually be expelled. Several disputes are also suspended. Students who wanted to join were mistreated and humiliated in at least six fraternities. They were punched, kicked and punched in the face. “This has nothing to do with ‘getting acquainted’. It is a miracle that no one has been hospitalized as a result of this act,” the student body said.
The hazing “under the current setup” will be abolished for good, ASC/AVSV also reports. The association calls on victims of the abuse to report it to the police. They will then receive legal assistance from the corps.
According to ASC/AVSV, there is a rotten culture in the disputes that have now been suspended. “Agreements with these disputes about the introductory time appear not to be fulfilled, the Senate has been lied to several times, abuses are concealed, hidden and trivialized while aspiring members are constantly belittled.”
