Arne Slot wins European record with Feyenoord | Football

The current squad is on the longest cycle of European matches ever seen in the first half of the season. The duel with Slavia Prague was already the eleventh European match since July 22, when Feyenoord played against FC Drita in the second preliminary round. On December 9, game number 12 will follow, at home against Maccabi Haifa. Then Feyenoord has already played exactly as many European matches as in the 1973-1974 season, when the UEFA Cup double final was won against Tottenham Hotspur in May.

The record number of European matches in one season stands at fifteen. That happened in the 2001-2002 season, when Feyenoord again conquered the UEFA Cup under the leadership of Bert van Marwijk. In that season Feyenoord played eight games before the winter break and seven more games were added in the spring, including the final in De Kuip.

The last time Feyenoord overwintered was in the 2014-2015 season, when it stranded at AS Roma in February.
