The test center is co-financed by the province of Gelderland and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management. State Secretary Van Veldhoven: “Good news that we will soon have this international test center. Faster charging makes electric driving more attractive. This center will be a nursery where green innovations see the light of day. Our business benefits from this, and ultimately all of us. Clean air, more green jobs and less CO2. ”

Heavier vehicles

At the current location of ElaadNL, the charging of electric passenger cars has been tested with car manufacturers for a number of years. “There was no space for trucks and buses,” says ElaadNL’s director Onoph Caron. “In this new, large hall with accompanying charging plaza we will soon be able to test much more and also much larger and heavier vehicles, such as buses and e-trucks and associated charging infrastructure. Because of the impact on the electricity grid, it is crucial for grid operators to be able to test this new wave of vehicle electrification. ”

In the new test lab, measuring equipment and special charging infrastructure will soon be available where a lot of power can be charged with high capacities in a short time. More different tests can also be done. For example, it is possible to look at the communication in the chain: from car and charging station to back office and the interaction with other elements such as solar panels and home energy management systems. And attention is paid to the cyber security of all that communication.

“Due to the impact on the power grid, it is crucial for grid operators to be able to test this new wave of vehicle electrification”

The new test center is expected to be ready on 1 September and will collaborate with educational institutions such as HAN as part of the training of new professionals. To this end, it links up with the Connectr energy cluster. within which various parties share their knowledge and expertise.
