The signing of the MoU embodies the Ministry of Environment’s ambition to improve Jordan’s level of practice in the areas of Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA). EIA is a tool used to assess and consider the environmental and social impacts of infrastructure projects, enabling stakeholders and decision makers to assess the potential impacts of projects on the environment and people. In Jordan, EIA has been in place for over 20 years and there are clear indications that the use of EIA has led to better projects. Through this MoU, the NCEA will work directly with the Ministry of the Environment to expand EIAs, address more immediate pressing issues such as climate change, strengthen legislation, and exchange good practices on regulatory frameworks.

At the signing ceremony, Environment Minister Mouawiye Radadede announced this agreement between the two parties to enhance the sustainability of natural resources, harmonize comprehensive planning and development strategies, and achieve the pillars of economic sustainability.
