Norwegian midfielder Fredrik Midtsjø of AZ has withdrawn from national coach Stale Solbakken for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers. Midtsjø dropped out on Sunday with a hamstring injury during the won competition match against SC Cambuur (1-3). According to AZ, he will remain in the Netherlands to work on his recovery.
Solbakken previously received a cancellation from top scorer Erling Haaland. The Borussia Dortmund striker, who scored twelve goals in fifteen international matches, has been struggling with a muscle injury for some time. The attackers Alexander Sørloth and Joshua King also dropped out injured.
The Feyenoord players Marcus Pedersen and Fredrik Aursnes did go to Norway. They play on Friday with their national team in the World Cup qualifier in Istanbul against Turkey, the country of their clubmate Orkun Kökcü. Three days later, Montenegro is the opponent in Oslo.
The Norwegians have 13 points in group G of the World Cup qualifiers after six matches, the same as the Dutch national team. Based on the goal difference, the Orange is at the top. Turkey has 2 points less.
