AZ coach Pascal Jansen is sure that his striker Vangelis Pavlidis will score many more goals for his team. ,,He proved that with Willem II, so I’m not worried about that.”

It is possible that the Greek striker who came over from Willem II has his sights on Thursday evening against the Danish Randers in the context of the Conference League. AZ is playing the first group match of that tournament in Denmark. The game of the Alkmaarders is characterized in the last duels as ‘pretty good’, but the effectiveness in the front is lacking. “I am satisfied until the last twenty to 25 meters before the goal”, Jansen said at the digital press moment. ,,If we get better at that, there will be less pressure on the rest of the team when a goal is conceded. Pavlidis missed great opportunities against Celtic and against Heerenveen and PSV, but he works hard to prevent that in the future.”
Due to the five left base players, AZ has handed in a lot of goals this transfer summer. “That’s a fact,” says Jansen. ,,Myron Boadu, for example, scored many goals, but Teun Koopmeiners was completely exceptional as a midfielder. I think that from the current squad Albert Gudmundsson, Dani de Wit and Zakaria Aboukhlal can score more goals than they have shown so far. And so the aforementioned Pavlidis.”

With AZ, Jansen is preparing for a physically strong and opportunistic Randers. ,,They currently have a lesser run of games, but they are qualified for the Conference League. That’s saying something. We will have to parry their physical violence. It will be a competition between two different styles of play.” PSV lost big last Saturday, the game shown shows something to hold on to. “Professionals see through such a result. We performed well for a large part and that gives confidence for the game against Randers.”
AZ stayed longer than usual in their own country for a European game. For example, the club still trained today at its own training complex in Wijdewormer. ,,We have a different travel schedule than usual because an ideal travel schedule could not be realized in Denmark. The travel time between the hotel and the stadium was too long at 45 minutes. Then you are traveling too much and that is why I wanted to train in a familiar environment. Then we don’t train in the stadium, but I think that’s less important.”
