Biniam Girmay hits boarding twice during bunch sprint | cycling

“I hit the boarding twice in the last 100 meters. It’s not easy sprinting. I took a risk and then I hit him a second time. At least I didn’t want to fall, so it’s all fine,” said Girmay.

Girmay’s team did everything they could today to give him a chance. After Ewan and Cavendish were released, it was Intermarché-Wanty-Gobert who kept the pace high together with Alpecin-Fenix. Thus the fast men could not return to the peloton.

Girmay was pleased with the work his team delivered today: “Everyone did a good job. I only lost the wheel of Loïc Vliegen in the last kilometer and because of that I was not well positioned. I had good legs, but at least we stayed out of trouble.”
