Joint Statement Pride 2023 | News Article

This year, as Slovakia celebrates Pride events across the country, including Bardejov on 10 June, Banska Bystrica on 24 June, Bratislava on 22 July and Kosice on 26 August, we support the LGBTQI+ community that forms an integral part of Slovak society, striving for full equality and fighting intolerance. Everyone is entitled to respect, dignity and equality, regardless of how they identify themselves or who they love.

The past year has been a sad reminder of how hateful words can easily lead to hateful actions, and that targeting one group of people undermines the safety of all vulnerable people. The Teplaren murders highlight how discrimination and violence go hand in hand. Attempts to further restrict the human rights of LGBTQI+ people cause further suffering. In this regard, we feel obligated to emphasize that if we defend the rights of all, societies will be freer, more prosperous and safer.

Universal Declaration of Human Rights Marks 75th Anniversaryth This year’s birthday declares that each person is entitled to human rights and fundamental freedoms. Similarly, the 1993 Vienna Declaration and Program of Action affirmed that human rights are indivisible, interdependent and interrelated, and the principles of the European Union Charter of Fundamental Rights require all EU Member States to provide for the equal treatment of all people, including LGBTQI+ persons. The Equal Rights Coalition of Member States and NGOs promotes the rights of her LGBTQI+ people around the world. These rights are non-negotiable. those are human rights. they are indivisible. They are the foundation of our free and democratic society.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and intersex people in Slovakia and around the world, we meet you. we stand by you
