Furthermore, data from credit card ICS shows that in the past week the Dutch mainly shopped at foreign webshops. Two thirds of the online spending in the week of Black Friday was made at a foreign webshop. Online spending with a credit card rose by 10%. According to ICS, many Dutch people do not realize when placing an order that it is often a foreign webshop. This is mainly due to the Dutch-language webshop where the items are purchased.

Several retail companies have spread the bargain festival over several days, also to avoid crowds due to the corona virus. Retail trade organizations such as RND and INretail also insisted on this in advance. Many consumers opted for the ‘safe’ online offers. Online sales increased 48% in the week leading up to Black Friday.
