Max Verstappen wins seventh straight at Hungarian GP

Max Verstappen won his seventh straight race on Sunday in Mogyorod, Pest province, Hungary. Red Bull broke the longest winning streak in F1 history by a constructor with 12 consecutive victories.

Verstappen started the race second after Lewis Hamilton was 0.003s faster than the reigning champion in yesterday’s qualifying. But it made no difference. Verstappen took the lead on the first lap after Hamilton’s poor start dropped him back to fourth.

As with many races this season, Verstappen had little competition as he raced ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris.

Verstappen made two pit stops, but did not lose the lead at either pit stop. However, after his second pit stop, he said his hard tires were not as comfortable, stating that they “felt stiffer, which made it easier to have moments”. Verstappen finished the race more than half an hour ahead of second-placed Lando Norris.

Verstappen’s lead now stands at 110 points over nearest challenger Sergio Perez. Perez finished third in the race. The 25-year-old has won seven in a row, tying the records of Alberto Ascari, Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg. Only Sebastian Vettel has won more races in a row.
