Omroep Ongehoord Nederland (ON!) of Arnold Karskens will make an afternoon program for NPO 1 two days a week from the spring of 2022. A spokesperson for the Dutch Public Broadcasting (NPO) confirms this after reporting about it in Trouw.
It was previously unclear whether and when the aspiring broadcaster of Karskens could start broadcasting. Negotiations between the broadcaster and the NPO were difficult, according to both parties. As one of the reasons for this, NPO director Frans Klein mentioned at the beginning of November that the proposed afternoon program of ON! would be too expensive. ON! chairman Karskens denied that. It seems that agreement has now been reached.
Broadcast ON! Since its inception, it has established itself as a broadcaster that “sounds critically about things such as the climate, the EU and immigration”. According to Karskens, “politicians and commentators will join the new afternoon program who are not or hardly discussed elsewhere”.
In Trouw, outgoing NPO board chairman Shula Rijxman also says that ON! wants to represent a target group that does not feel heard. “They talk to unvaccinated people, for example, because they think that too little attention is paid to this. That those people are boycotted. I don’t think that’s the case at all, but they think it is,” says Rijxman. “So now they are in the system from January, but they must, like all other broadcasters, adhere to the journalistic codes.”
Just like Omroep ZWART, Ongehoord Nederland officially received the status of aspiring broadcaster last summer. That means that they can make programs for the NPO for the next five years.
