Butterflies breeding: Dutch butterfly population growth

According to the Butterfly Foundation, a butterfly conservation group, you may see more butterflies floating this summer. This group writes about the explosion of butterfly populations on the biology website Nature Today.

Each year, the Foundation adjusts the number of butterflies each year. Volunteers count all the butterflies they see in the garden in 15 minutes. The organization collates that information to produce a report on the status of butterfly populations in the country.

According to the survey results, the number of butterflies in the first two weeks of July was small, but the number of butterflies seen on the weekend of July 17-18 increased sharply.

The group believes that growth is primarily due to the weather. “The explanation for this massive emergence can be seen in the fact that it rained much more this spring than in the previous year,” the organization writes. The more rain it has for plants, the better, making it an excellent food source for caterpillars.

These results are tentative and the counting project will continue until the end of the month. If you want to help, you can send the count from the website.
