Cabinet does not intend to give in to rebellious catering bosses: ‘It will be a complicated week’ | Instagram

“We have just over and over argued the risks associated with further easing, regardless of all needs,” said a cabinet source. “The tune is now known: more mobility means extra contacts between people and that in turn leads to an increase in infections.”

In the short term, even before the deadline for the catering bosses ends on Tuesday, there will be no solution, is the general expectation in The Hague. “Not this week and not next week, that just won’t happen,” said another insider. “That appeal from the entrepreneurs is unrealistic.”

It sounds like the cabinet will mainly try to get the mayors back into line through the Security Council, among other things. They must ‘take their role’ and stand for enforcement with catering bosses who will soon continue their threat. Minister Grapperhaus plays an important role in this.

The House of Representatives is expected to pass a motion today calling on the cabinet to examine whether the terraces can be opened safely before the next press conference on Monday 8 March. The cabinet is already trying to provide ‘customization’ at the request of the House, say those involved. For example, shopping by appointment comes from this. It is doubtful whether this relaxation can be added.

Yet several political insiders also say that they see ‘social pressure’ increasing rapidly. “It will be a complicated week. But now giving an extra push to the easing without an advice from the OMT and under the current epidemiological circumstances, is not a viable path. ”
