Can Elde Airport help?Additional flights available amid Schiphol crisis

Groningen Airport Eelde can accept additional flights amid the ongoing overcrowding crisis at Schiphol. According to Eelde director Meiltje de Groot, the airport can accept at least 10 additional flights per day. Schiphol Airport is now expected to face around 3,500 passengers in September and October, exceeding his daily limit of 67,500 and 69,500 respectively.

“There are no queues here. People who arrived half an hour earlier could probably have gotten on the plane,” De Groot said in a conversation with Dagblad van het Noorden. We regret that, despite interest and demand, many people across the Netherlands are in danger of missing out on their holidays abroad as a result of the turmoil in Schiphol.

Meanwhile, the other two main Dutch airports (Rotterdam and Eindhoven) are fully booked.

As reported by Dagblad van het Noorden, an Eindhoven airport spokesperson said: “We ourselves have a very busy schedule. It seems unlikely that Schiphol will be able to offer much relief in the meantime.

According to Dagblad van het Noorden, representatives of Rotterdam The Hague Airport share similar sentiments.

Schiphol is not the only major airport in Europe feeling strained as a result of overcrowding. According to FlightAware data, travelers transiting through Paris Charles de Gaulle and Frankfurt airports are even more likely to have their flights delayed.

The airline has not yet responded to De Groot’s statement, so budding travelers will have to wait if they want to catch a flight from Eelde to their vacation destination.
