Catering in many municipalities still open as a protest

Catering establishments open on Saturdays in many municipalities across the country. They do this as a protest, because the cabinet has forced them to remain closed for the time being due to the current corona situation.

On Friday, some catering businesses already held a similar promotion, for example in Valkenburg in Limburg and Alblasserdam in South Holland. Now many more businesses want to do that and many municipalities are turning a blind eye to this, so that the catering industry can make a statement to the cabinet. In most municipalities this is allowed until 5 p.m., but in some catering businesses are allowed to continue for longer.

The four major cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht and The Hague have indicated that they do not intend to allow the opening of catering businesses. In Breda, the local branch of Royal Catering Netherlands has called on cafes and restaurants not to open. According to the department, the catering industry should not allow itself to be lent itself for a day to a protest action.
