Christian Democratic MP Pieter Omtzigt is currently ill with stress following a childcare benefit scandal and a rude attempt to become leader, and in a 76-page document leaked to the media, “Bomb under CDA. I put it down. “

In the document, Mr. Omzikt said the childcare benefit scandal felt underestimated and unsafe when being investigated, and that the party’s latest issue was part of a broader structural issue. I will.

This document contains some of the internal party files and screenshots of the communication between the party worker and the members. In those documents, Omzikt states that he was described as a psychopath, a sick person, and an idiot, and was directly accused of interfering with the campaign to find new leaders.

Omtzigt was a candidate for a leadership role along with Minister of Health Hugo de Jonge and Junior Minister of Economy Mona Keijzer. De Jonge defeated Omtzigt by a small margin, but quickly dropped due to the pressure to deal with the coronavirus pandemic. Finance Minister Wopke Hoekstra then took over the role, but Omtzigt said it was not in line with previous agreements.

The document also touched on Omtzigt’s suspicions about party funding and raised the issue of three major sponsors who donated € 1 million to meet the CDA’s campaign budget.

“Some of these sponsors and campaign teams are interested in attempts to change the CDA’s plans, such as election manifests,” said Omtzigt. “I have a problem with this and make the CDA vulnerable.”

It’s unclear who the sponsors are, but their names weren’t on the official register, Omtzigt said.

In the first reaction, Interim Party Chairman Marunix van Lai said he “resolutely” rejected the proposal that the support of large-funded sponsors affected the manifesto.

Omtzigt has so far not responded to the leaked document first obtained by the local newspaper De Limburger. This document was written for a party committee considering a leadership battle.

However, Hoekstra told reporters prior to Friday’s cabinet meeting that the document was “very annoying and damaging” and would like to discuss its implications internally first.

RTL correspondent Frits Wester said the document he described as “a mixture of political and personal frustration” was very damaging to the CDA.

“It makes things very difficult for CDA reader Wopke Hoekstra and complicates the position of CDA in the formation process,” Wester said. “In the eyes of other parties, the CDA will have to set up its own home first before the party begins to deal with national interests.”

Financieele Dagblad described Omtzigt’s memo as “a bomb under the party.”

Omzikt’s role in the discovery of the children’s allowance scandal failed to acquire friends within the coalition government, which eventually resigned two months before the general election.

He also indirectly interfered with the early coalition negotiations after it became clear that finding a new job for him was upset during the negotiations.
