Champions League hopes fade as Ajax lose again to Napoli

Ajax’s hopes of reaching the knockout rounds of this year’s Champions League competition were shattered on Thursday after Amsterdam Mars lost 4-2 to Napoli and Liverpool were overwhelmed 1-7 by Rangers.
Third place in Group A is the most realistic option for Ajax, who have three points from four games.
Last week, Ajax lost 6-1 to Napoli in the first leg in what was the worst defeat in European football.
“It may sound a little strange that we just lost 4-2, but I think we played a good game,” Dutch coach Alfred Schreuder told RTL7 after Wednesday’s game. “I have to admit [Napoli] A formidable enemy. You can see it in the way they play, the tempo, everything.
Ajax will play Liverpool at home on 26 October and Rangers away on 1 November.
On Thursday night Alkmaar’s AZ, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord will all be in action in European football.
