Far-right parliamentarian faces parliamentary ban for violating code of conduct

Far-right parliamentarian Thierry Baudet is banned from participating in parliamentary debates for seven days after refusing to list his work at a publishing company in the register of parliamentarians’ interests.

The parliamentary integrity committee recommended a ban, but it does not prevent Bourde from voting because he violates the Code of Conduct for Members of Parliament by refusing to comply. Lawmakers will vote on the proposal next Tuesday.

At the center of the line is Amsterdam Media Group BV, the publisher that produces Bode’s books. Two of his other her Forum voor Democratie MPs are facing accusations for refusing to become members of the company’s board of directors.

The code of conduct was introduced last year after the Council of Europe criticized the lack of formal rules covering the integrity of Dutch parliamentarians.

Bourde made headlines this week in an English-language interview when he said he hoped Russia would win the war in Ukraine and that it was “wonderful” that someone like Putin exists.

“This is one of the most hopeful things in the world today,” he tells conspiracy theorist website Operation People. “The best way is for the EU to collapse, NATO to collapse, the US empire to collapse.”
