‘D4, T6: what do all those letters and numbers on a Volvo mean?’ | Car

Car editor Niek Schenk answers: ‘With this Volvo indicates the engine type. The D stands for diesel, a B for petrol and the T for Turbo. The numbers 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 indicate the engine power. The higher the number, the more engine power. Today Volvo also uses the letter P, for its fully electric cars. The P then stands for Pure (apparently Volvo thinks you can describe electric driving as pure) and a number is also added to this to indicate the engine power.’
