Prime Minister Mark Rutte told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday that the Dutch cabinet had set aside 2.5 billion euros to help Ukraine next year.

The funds will be spent on military assistance, restoration work and trials of war criminals, depending on the wishes of the Ukrainians themselves and the development of the war.

“It’s the best guess,” Defense Minister Kasya O’Longren said on Friday after ministers reached agreement on the budget.

With this allocation of funds, she said, the Netherlands demonstrates “unwavering solidarity with the Ukrainian people who can count on Dutch support for as long as they need it.”

Ollongren said last week that the Netherlands had so far given almost €1 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
