De Wolden was declared as the official cultural municipality of Drente in 2023-2024. The municipality, awarded € 90,000 in the title, will undertake a comprehensive program to revitalize and develop rural cultural activities for the future.
De Wolden will take over from current title holder Gemeente Coevorden in early 2024.
According to the State Drente website, the purpose of the Cultural Municipal title is to provide an “impulse” for cultural activities throughout the state. As the cultural municipality of Drenthe in 2023-2024, De Wolden will see an influx of growth in its cultural infrastructure. This includes the development of events that allow residents and visitors to participate in “various forms of art and culture” throughout the municipality.
“De Wolden is a prosperous community in many ways. Many things are already happening in the cultural arena, and much more is underway, and we aim to show that.” , Said Albert Haar, a member of political party D66 and a councilor of De Wolden.
As a means of unifying future efforts, we will build a temporary “village” in the middle of the municipality. The village will serve as a hub for various creative art projects planned at De Wolden until 2024.
“Art and culture can inspire us to think about the future when many transitions have to take place,” said Partij van de Arbeid (PvdA), Lieutenant Governor of Drente. Says Nelleke Vedelaar, a member of.
The state Drente has elected a new cultural municipality every two years since 2002. De Wolden will operate as a cultural municipality in Drenthe for two years before a new municipality is elected in 2025.
