Code Orange: Dutch Foreign Ministry warns against travel to Russia

The Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs adjusted its travel advisory for Russia on Saturday. “Given Russia’s recent developments, there is a risk of further disruption across Russia,” the ministry said.

The travel advisory for most of Russia is orange and partly red, warning people to travel to Russia only if absolutely necessary. “We reiterate our appeal to those who are still in Russia to consider whether they need to stay in Russia or make a decision to leave,” the ministry said in a statement.

Code Red applies to areas bordering Ukraine. “Do not travel there regardless of the circumstances,” the ministry warned.

The ministry also said it may not be possible to help people leave Russia in the short term. “At the moment, there are various ways to leave the country, such as by plane or by road, but that may change soon. The Dutch government cannot help you leave Russia.”

Evgeny Prigozhin, commander of the Wagner Group mercenary corps, rebelled against the Russian military leadership. Russian President Vladimir Putin addressed the country on Saturday morning, calling the uprising a “treason.”
