The latest data from the public health institute RIVM indicates a rise in coronavirus infections among the population.
Over the past two weeks, there has been a slight increase in hospital admissions due to infections, although the numbers remain lower than during the same period last year.
According to the RIVM’s infection radar, which monitors flu and coronavirus cases, approximately 10% of individuals with respiratory symptoms are testing positive for coronavirus.
“These figures are not cause for immediate alarm, but it’s important to recognize that what might seem like a cold could actually be coronavirus,” said infectologist Chantal Rovers from Radboud teaching hospital, speaking to AD.
Rovers emphasized the importance of acknowledging that an infection can have severe consequences for individuals with weakened immune systems.
“Coronavirus is still distinct from a common cold and can result in long-term health issues,” she noted. “Therefore, if you’re feeling unwell, it’s advisable to stay home and, if possible, work remotely.”
