On the last day of Q School, darts player Damian Mol from Sint Willebrord managed to get a tour card from professional association PDC. A victory over the Belgian Ronny Huybrechts ensured that Mol was in safe harbor.
Because of this, the Willebrorder reached the last sixteen of the fourth and final tournament at Qualifying School in Niedernhausen, Germany, which gave him just enough ranking points over the four tournaments combined. No fewer than 128 darters competed this week in the German town for eleven tour cards. There is also a Q School in England. There, 13 tour cards will be distributed.
The darts player from Sint Willebrord reached the semi-finals on day one, but lost in the second round on days two and three. On the third day, compatriot Derk Telnekes was just too strong for Mol (6-5), who knew on the fourth day that he would have to win a few more matches.
It went wrong almost immediately in the last 128, but Mol kept his cool in the decisive leg (6-5) against Frenchman Jacques Labre. After that he had less trouble against the Austrian Roxy James Rodriguez (6-3), who could have helped his brother Roby John by a victory over Mol. In the last 32, Mol then faced the Belgian Ronny Huybrechts. Mol quickly took a 3-0 lead and did not relinquish it.
With the tour card he has now earned, Mol gets access to all Pro Tour tournaments of the PDC. There he can earn money for the world rankings and tickets for major TV tournaments can also be earned. A tour card remains valid for two years and is automatically extended for all darts players who are in the top 64 of the world ranking.
