Two men were taken to hospital after a crane collapsed at a construction site in Utrecht, trapping them.

As the crane was lifting a concrete slab on top of the Maliburn building, an arm broke and the slab fell, trapping workers on the ground as they waited to be placed behind the building.

Another worker was standing on a scaffolding under the crane, which collapsed when his arm fell into it. Both men were released by professional firefighters and are said to be doing well.

As a precaution, several children were evacuated from a nearby nursery school.

Workplace safety inspectors and construction and housing sector observers investigate the cause of the accident and the storage conditions of the crane.
