Investigators have searched the apartment in New York of Rudy Giuliani, the former attorney of former US President Donald Trump and once mayor of the city. During the search, electronic equipment was seized, American media report.
It is the latest development in the investigation of Giuliani’s trade and walk as a Trump lawyer. Prosecutors are looking to see if Giuliani violated lobbying laws during that period, reports The New York Times.
Giuliani has been investigating his business transactions in Ukraine for several years. The question is whether he illegally lobbied the Trump administration in 2019 at the request of Ukrainian officials and top figures.
These individuals helped Giuliani search for information that could smear Trump’s political rivals, such as current President Joe Biden and his son Hunter. Hunter Biden is under criminal investigation for tax evasion.
Giuliani took an active part in the campaign against Marie Yovanovitch, the US ambassador to Kiev, which led to her dismissal. Trump and Giuliani are suspected of wanting to get rid of the ambassador because she refused to cooperate in efforts to force Ukrainian authorities to investigate the Bidens.
