Weghorst gave VfL Wolfsburg the lead in the home game against Borussia Dortmund after just over a minute, but a penalty from Emre Can meant a 1-1 score at halftime. Malen and Haaland (he made his comeback after an absence of less than a month) gave the visitors the full pound after the break. Malen was replaced twenty minutes before time by Haaland, who only needed eight minutes to score.
Mark Flek went down with SC Freiburg, the number 3 in the ranking, at VfL Bochum: 2-1. Jetro Willems did not get off the bench at last in Greuther Fürth, who played an unprecedented goal-rich game against Hoffenheim at home, but lost: 3-6.
Jurgen Ekkelenkamp and Deyovaisio Zeefuik played a draw with Hertha BSC against FC Augsburg: 1-1. Ekkelenkamp was replaced after more than an hour, Zeefuik came in in the last fifteen minutes.
