Cyclist Caleb Ewan has won the third stage of the Tour of Belgium. The Australian from Lotto Soudal was the best in the bunch sprint in Scherpenheuvel after 174.4 kilometers. He was ahead of the German Pascal Ackermann and the Dane Michael Mørkøv.
A group of five riders including Jan-Willem van Schip attacked early in the stage from Gingelom to Scherpenheuvel and got a maximum lead of about 3 minutes. The refugees were caught up on the Dongelstraat, the last climb at more than 3 kilometers from the finish.
In Scherpenheuvel, the preparation for the sprint was tight. In it, Ewan showed with a long sprint that he had the most speed. Danny van Poppel finished fourth. Olav Kooij (seventh) and Nils Eekhoff (tenth) also finished in the top 10.
The lead in the general classification remains in the hands of the Belgian Remco Evenepoel. Saturday there is a difficult stage through the Ardennes. The Tour of Belgium lasts until Sunday.
