Ajax draw at home with FC Twente

Ajax and FC Twente drew 0-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena on Saturday night. Devyne Rensch was sent off in his 35th minute. Ajax are two points behind Feyenoord, with the Rotterdamers one game to go.

Ajax have been winless in their last three games amid mounting pressure on manager Alfred Schreuder. Twente had won his previous two matches in the Eredivisie before this match. Geronimo Lugli makes his debut for the Amsterdam Mars.

Twente hit the post twice in the first ten minutes. Michel Vrap and former Ajax his player Vaclav Cerny were players who came close to breaking the deadlock.

Ajax had their first and most important chance of the match 16 minutes later when Lars Unnerstal headed in a Davy Klaasen cross in Twente’s goal.

Ajax were reduced to ten men in the 35th minute when Devine Rensch drew on Ricky van Wolfswinkel, who was one-on-one with the keeper. The defender was sent off and stretched for a suspected shoulder injury.

Ajax were forced to defend most of the second half as they had fewer men than Twente, resulting in a dull second half as Twente struggled to break through Ajax’s defense.

A draw means Feyenoord could be five points behind Ajax if they beat FC Groningen on Sunday. PSV could have overtaken Amsterdam Mars if he beat Fortuna his sittard.
