With two days to go until the start of the competition, only one test player is still active at TOP Oss. The 21-year-old controlling midfielder Ömer Gündüz is heading for a contract, but will be missing in the opening game against Jong FC Utrecht.
Ömer Gündüz, who was still a controlling midfielder at Jong Feyenoord last season, has been training at TOP Oss for a week and a half now. The unwritten rule in the ‘Osse Kuipje’ is that test players who remain active at the club for two weeks, get the prospect of a contract with the club. For players who have already dropped out, that has not been the case.
With two days to go until the competition starts with a home match against Jong Utrecht, the midfielder from Maassluis has already made a sufficient impression on the club management. Nevertheless, Gündüz will not yet be part of the selection on Friday evening. Players must be registered with the KNVB before Thursday afternoon to be eligible to play, and details about a contract in Oss are expected to have not yet been worked out.
Gündüz went through the youth academy at Feyenoord and also trained a number of times with the first team last season. He returned after struggling with a serious knee injury for a long time. The way he dealt with this and his perseverance in rehabilitating meant that he was named Feyenoord Academy Player of the Month for October last year. Contracting with the Rotterdammers, however, was not an option, and an internship with fellow townsman Excelsior did not lead to a contract. However, the talks with TOP Oss are in a final phase, so it is expected that the 21-year-old right leg will soon sign an agreement.
