Earlier this week, in the night from Sunday to Monday, four police officers were injured on the A73 near Horst. “Two officers were assaulted by a confused man they were transporting. A third and fourth officer were injured when overpowering the suspect, who was also injured himself,” the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reported on Thursday.
The suspect, a 26-year-old man from Herkenbosch, showed confused behavior on Sunday evening. The police have been asked to provide support with transport to a care institution. During the transport, a struggle broke out between the suspect and the police.
Shot at suspect
In the end, a confrontation took place outside the police car between the suspect and several police officers, where an officer shot the suspect. The suspect was injured, but is not in a life-threatening condition.
National investigation investigation
The National Criminal Investigation Department is currently investigating the use of firearms, as is usual with firearms used by the police. The 26-year-old man is suspected of attempting aggravated assault on officials in office and resisting his arrest. He was brought before the examining magistrate on Thursday. It has decided that the suspect must remain in pre-trial detention for 14 days.
