Four years in prison for assaulting a sex worker, victim still in a coma

A 26-year-old man from Volendam has been convicted because he assaulted a woman who worked in the Red Light District so severely that she fell into a coma. The judge has sentenced him to four years in prison for attempted manslaughter. The 37-year-old woman was found seriously injured in her home on March 1 last year.

The chance that the woman will wake up from her coma and recover is nil. The man had been drinking alcohol and using cocaine. He is said to have hit the woman in the head with objects and kicked her while she was lying on the ground.

Intent in the game

The judge also takes into account the role that the woman played. She took him home, which is very unusual in window prostitution, and forced him to pay her a lot of money. A WhatsApp conversation with her husband in Romania shows that they tricked him.

According to the Volendammer, on the way back from a party in the Red Light District, she had entered her house on a whim. After his deed, he texted a friend that he had “kicked a whore to typhus”, it turned out during the trial. He called 112 himself.

The man is retarded, has ADHD and is depressed. The judge declares him to be less accountable on the basis of the psychological examination. He also has to pay 130,000 euros in damages, including to the wife and her husband.
