Magento 2 vs Wix: Which Ecommerce platform to use for online store?

E-commerce is no longer seen as an option. It is an indispensable tool for the development of businesses selling goods or services.

All the most important things on the homepage of your online shop: promotions, catalogue headings, viewed and recommended products, shop information and the most interesting things on the blog. Add all the necessary blocks to attract and “ignite” the attention of your customers.

You can develop e-shop on almost any CMS. The only question is the availability of the right features and the need to refine them (magento support services). On this point, all platforms can be divided into general ones (Wix) and specialized ones (Magento 2). In general, there are general purpose CMS. As a rule, they require the installation of add-ons (plugins) to implement the functions of the online shop. The engines of the second group are either specifically designed for digital commerce, or have editions “confined” to shops. In general, the more a content management system is oriented towards e-commerce, the more basic functions the shop has “out of the box”. There’s no need to think about and look for add-ons, add-ons, or add-ons, just to ensure that your online shop is working properly.

Some free licenses may imply only a minimal base, which, in fact, cannot ensure the proper functioning of your online shop. And all the additional modules will have to buy. And it is possible that you will have to pay for them quite generously.

For example, CMS Magento (Community Edition) can be called free only conditionally when considered in detail. The fact is that the platform requires frequent and expensive (and they are all paid!) updates to work properly. As a result it turns out that “free” CMS is quite expensive. Absurd, isn’t it? In essence, Community Edition is a short-lived trial (consulting url).

In addition, free licences often require substantial rework. This, too, is an additional cost of the project. That is why it is sometimes better to choose a boxed system with all the necessary modules and functions. A paid CMS or version may end up being more profitable. The two classifications presented do not answer the question. But they can serve as a starting point when choosing a suitable system for the online shop. That is, looking at them, you should base your choice on two main criteria: functionality and budget of the online project.

Theoretically, you can install, configure and ‘tweak’ everything yourself, or you can turn to the huge community developers and enthusiasts. One of the main problems is security. Open source is a reason why sites are often hacked.

Magento has a wide range of features – suitable for any marketplace on the web, the system “grows” with the scale of the project, a wide choice of additional (including free) add-ons. At the same time, the system is very difficult to master: both in terms of administration and development – a high threshold of entry, as well as high requirements for server capacity and, unfortunately, not all documentation is localised.

Developing an online shop on Magento requires an investment. However, any business needs investment, and with this CMS the costs can be considered exactly as an investment. Few programmers work with it, which complicates the search for what you need and increases the cost of improvements. This is a serious CMS for serious Enterprise projects. We recommend it to choose it for the creation of projects not lower than the average level and with a budget of $ 10,000 or more.

To choose the right CMS, be sure to define the specific objectives of the project. Try to predict the approximate scale of the online shop (number of items in the catalogue). Estimate the demand. This will determine the attendance, and therefore the load on the resource.
