Turkish media previously reported that the 30-year-old Dutch defender has reached a personal agreement with the club. The transfer-free Van Aanholt could sign for three years.
Van Aanholt played at Crystal Palace until last season. The Orange international had an expiring contract with the English club. Van Aanholt made the switch from PSV youth to Chelsea in 2007. The Londoners successively leased him to Coventry City, Newcastle United, Leicester City, Wigan Athletic and Vitesse. From 2014 to 2017, Van Aanholt was under contract with Sunderland and then with Crystal Palace.
In the 5-3-2 system of the national coach Frank de Boer, who has since left, Van Aanholt had a basic place at the European Championship as a left back. Galatasaray lost 5-1 to PSV in the second qualifying round of the Champions League on Wednesday. The return in Istanbul will follow this Wednesday.
