Facebook and Instagram have faced another major global outage since 11 p.m. tonight. The sites and apps partially work, many users are unable to upload and view photos. Thousands of users report technical problems on Twitter.
It is not yet clear what exactly is going on, but many users can in any case no longer post photos or refresh their timeline.
Downdetector.com also reports worldwide problems with the media concerned. More than 100,000 user reports were received in the past hour, an explosive increase compared to the previous hour. Also on AlleStoringen.nl it appears that many Dutch people cannot use the apps.
This is the second major outage in three weeks. On Friday, March 19, tens of thousands of people in several countries had problems with the messaging services WhatsApp and Messenger and Instagram.
“We have resolved this issue for everyone and we apologize for the inconvenience,” a Facebook spokeswoman said by email at the time.
Instagram is part of Facebook. The company is aware of the second malfunction. It is not known when a solution is expected.
