The door of the Golden Coach opens. This is reported by the Amsterdam Museum, where the Golden Coach has been on display since June. From Prinsjesdag, next Tuesday, the door will open and visitors can take a better look at the inside of the carriage.
Until now, the door of the Golden Coach was closed, making the interior covered with embroidery less visible. The interior, like the exterior, has been thoroughly restored for five years.
The Golden Coach now stands in a glass enclosure in the courtyard of the museum. The royal carriage will be on display until the end of February in Amsterdam, the place where it was once made as a gift for the inauguration of Queen Wilhelmina.
King Willem-Alexander and his predecessors drove the Golden Coach for years on Prinsjesdag from the palace to the Binnenhof. There will be no driving tour this year, but if it had gone ahead, the king and queen would have sat in the Glass Carriage.
