NN Group already announced in April that it was considering putting its asset management branch NN Group, which has €300 billion under management, up for sale. The deadline to make bids ends next Monday.
Both GSAM and DWS declined to comment on whether or not they participate in the acquisition deal with NN IP, which is estimated to be valued at around €1.4 billion.
Since the emergence of passive investing, the wealth management and asset management sector has been under great pressure to function more efficiently. Fees for actively managing investment portfolios have historically been high, while the promise to beat the index has not always been delivered.
Recently, NN Group itself went on a takeover path. For example, the insurer set aside more than half a billion for the acquisition of two subsidiaries of the American MetLife in Poland and Greece.
