Groningen residents protest with torches | NOS Youth news

Groningers will take to the streets tonight with torches to protest against problems in the earthquake area. People want to show that they are angry because the government wants to get more gas out of the ground. Previously, drilling for gas has caused earthquakes.

Jonah, age 12, also joins the parade. Together with his 11-year-old brother and their parents. Four years ago there was also a protest with torches. You can see that in the photo at the top of this post.

Money promised

Today’s protest is also about other things. For example, people find it unfair that money was promised so that people could refurbish their houses, when there was not enough for everyone. The money ran out within a day, without everyone having been able to use it.

The state secretary responsible for this made another 250 million euros available yesterday to compensate victims, but that is not enough for many residents to improve their confidence in the government.
