Embassy of China Tulip Award awarded to Li Qiaochu | News Article

On December 9, the Dutch Embassy in Beijing announced that it has awarded human rights activist Li Qiaochu the 2022 Embassy Tulip. Ambassador Wim Geertz wrote a letter to inform her personally and thank her for her dedication to defending human rights.

Each year, on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, select embassies around the world have the privilege of awarding Embassy Tulips in recognition of the valuable and courageous work of local human rights defenders. These local awards exist in tandem with the National Human Rights Tulip awarded to the Viasna Human Rights Center of Belarus by Foreign Minister Wopke Hekstra on 8 December.

Born in 1991, Li Qiaochu has worked on a wide range of human rights issues, including women’s rights and workers’ rights. Not only has she helped others and spoken up, but she has also spoken up and described her experiences of being harassed, interrogated and detained. .

“Your dedication to human rights is an inspiration to many,” Ambassador Geertz wrote to Lee. “Whether it’s your work on workers’ rights. Your helping hand for those forced out of their homes. Your constant struggle to promote gender equality and combat gender-based violence. Your act of solidarity for those who cannot speak for themselves, and your commitment to always seek justice and speak truth to power.”
