Netherlands pledges 2.5 billion euros in 2023 Ukraine aid

The Netherlands on Friday pledged €2.5 billion ($2.7 billion) to aid war-torn Ukraine in 2023, with most of the money going to military aid.

“Nearly two billion are aimed at military aid,” Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said at a press conference in The Hague.

The rest will go to humanitarian aid, rebuilding infrastructure and ensuring accountability, he said.

“The exact use of donations will depend on the needs of the Ukrainian people and therefore the course of the war,” the government said.

The Dutch government said its aid to reconstruction aims to help rebuild hospitals, housing, energy and agricultural infrastructure, as well as demining operations.

Last week, Dutch Defense Minister Kaisa Olonlen said the Netherlands had provided nearly €1 billion in military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded Ukraine last February.

“As long as Russia continues its war with Ukraine, (the Netherlands) will provide military, humanitarian and diplomatic assistance,” Rutte tweeted on Friday.

“Ukraine can rely on the Netherlands,” he wrote.
