Choreographer Hans van Manen (88) is currently very popular with the upcoming livestreams of his program Variations. The National Ballet, that Variations eventually estimates to sell up to 10,000 tickets per performance
In practice, this means even more viewers and in any case considerably more than the 1,600 spectators that the National Ballet can normally accommodate at a time in the home theater, the Stopera.
The interest in the live broadcasts on Saturday afternoon 27 and Sunday afternoon 28 February is already so great that Dutch National Ballet is recording them and will offer them both again as a stream. Thousands of tickets have already been sold, while Van Manen in Amsterdam is still busy preparing and guiding the dancers himself.
The online program Hans van Manen Variations offers six ballets by the Dutch choreographer: Adagio Hammerklavier, Sarcasmen, Trois Gnossiennes, Déjà Vu, Two pieces for HET and Variations for two couples.
The two live streams are danced by two different line-ups, according to Dutch National Ballet to ‘give as many dancers as possible from the company the opportunity to show their interpretation of Van Manen’s work to the online audience’.
The cast of February 27 will be repeated on March 4. The cast of February 28 can be watched again on March 5
