Toy manufacturer Hasbro has performed better than expected in the closing quarter of 2021. The company benefited from the success of toys based on TV shows and movies. That compensated for the supply chain problems that the company also faced.

Hasbro markets toys based on Transformers, Dungeons & Dragons, Peppa Pig, My Little Pony and PJ Masks, among others. Sales in the last quarter of the year benefited the company from new product launches. The higher sales were also offset by high freight and operating costs.

Hasbro can really use the good numbers. The company was recently hit when it lost licenses for toys based on Disney products. Competitor Mattel will have the rights again from next year to make toys based on, among other things, Disney’s Frozen films. The maker of Barbies can also produce dolls for all kinds of Disney heroes such as Snow White, Cinderella and Belle (from Beauty and the Beast).

Hasbro closed the quarter with a turnover of 2 billion dollars (1.7 billion euros), which was more than the 1.8 billion dollars that experts had expected. Hasbro expects single-digit growth this year, helped by new feature films such as Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.
