What song will always remind us of this time? Leading up to our end-of-year corona soundtrack, music lovers are speaking out. Today: Hugo de Jonge, Minister of Health. He chooses Hold on tight by Solomon Burke & De Dijk.
“When I started as a minister in The Hague in 2017, that inevitably also meant a farewell as an alderman in Rotterdam. Among all the flowers, cards and books I received, there was also a CD: the album Hold on tight by De Dijk and the American soul singer Solomon Burke. I got it from Piet Boekhoud, figurehead of education in Rotterdam. In recent years I often played this CD when I was in the car to work visits, criss-crossing the country. Simply because it is a very nice record. ”
,, But this year, the title song in particular has gained extra meaning for me. Hold on tight: hold on to each other. That sums up 2020, as far as I’m concerned. Especially now that we have to keep our distance, we have to be closer to each other than ever at the same time. ”
“It was a tough year for everyone. For all of us an exercise in perseverance, sometimes also in humility, but especially in solidarity. As difficult as it may be, we get through it together. If you don’t like it anymore, just know that you are not alone and … Hold on tight. “
