The investigative journalistic titles De Monitor, Pointer and Reporter Radio of KRO-NCRV will continue together under one name from 9 January 2021: Pointer. The three editorial teams join forces from one central online platform. Crowdsourcing, in-depth file knowledge and revealing data journalism, all in one place. With this, KRO-NCRV provides more clout and impact in society with its investigative journalism on television, radio and online.

The new Pointer thus becomes one of the largest research editorial offices in the Netherlands. It is the first cross-media journalistic platform, combining TV and radio, crowdsourcing and file research, data journalism and open source intelligence. It is precisely with the help and commitment of the public that we put social issues on the agenda, reveal news and abuses and tackle today’s issues.

Detecting abuses and contributing to change, that’s what the three programs have been committed to for years. With in-depth investigative journalism, they highlight problems that everyone has to deal with. The Monitor makes use of the knowledge and experiences of the public by means of crowdsourcing. Reporter Radio is known for its solid file knowledge and thorough research that is explained in a clear way. Pointer is all about data journalism, which was successfully deployed over the past year around themes of misinformation and privacy.

The programs already make a lot of impact individually. Last year, for example, Pointer and Reporter Radio jointly won a Tegel, the most important journalistic prize in the Netherlands. By setting up joint research from the various disciplines present at the editorial office, the new Pointer can create even more social impact and realize award-winning productions. At the heart of society and with stories close to the citizen. KRO-NCRV wants to stand as a thermometer in society with this major journalistic title.

Peter Kuipers, director, KRO-NCRV: “With the new Pointer on TV, radio and the online platform, together with viewers and listeners, we highlight social themes that concern everyone. In an understandable and accessible way and with the aim of contributing to awareness and change. With each other and for each other. ”

The new online platform will be launched on January 9. The first radio episode of the new Pointer will start on Sunday January 10 at 7 pm on NPO Radio 1 and on TV on January 11 at 10.15 pm on KRO-NCRV on NPO 2.
